What is the best window tint and PPF cutting software?

The best cutting software for a shop is the one that has patterns for the vehicles it works on, runs its plotter, and fits its budget. As of October 2026 the main independent options are PPF/Tint Studio ($60 to $139 a month), DigiCut ($149 to $199 a month) and 3M Pattern Marketplace. Film makers such as XPEL and Eastman also run pattern programs for their own dealers.

Film manufacturers also offer pattern software to their own dealers (XPEL's DAP and Eastman's Core, for example). If you are a dealer for one of those brands, ask your film rep what you already have access to and what it costs.

What to compare before you subscribe

  1. Patterns for your vehicles. A big total means little if the cars in your bay aren't in it. Look up the last ten vehicles you worked on in each library before you pay. Ours is public: available patterns.
  2. Price and commitment. Compare the month-to-month price, not only the annual one, and check what you owe if you cancel.
  3. Your plotter. The software has to speak your cutter's command language. See which plotters work with PPF/Tint Studio.
  4. Film brand. Some programs are tied to one manufacturer's film. If you buy film from more than one supplier, pick software that doesn't care.
  5. Editing and nesting. You will want to resize, extend edges, rearrange pieces to save film, and control the order pieces are cut in.
  6. A trial. Cut a real job on your own plotter before you commit.

Where PPF/Tint Studio fits

PPF/Tint Studio costs less than DigiCut at published prices, and it is strongest on window tint: that library covers several hundred vehicle models. The PPF library is newer and much smaller. Every plan includes the full editor, Auto Nesting, Cut Order and cloud saves, with no annual contract.

Another program is the better choice if you need a Mac app (DigiCut has one), if you need PPF patterns for most vehicles today, or if your film brand already includes software you're happy with.

Common questions

Is there free window tint cutting software?

We don't know of a free program that comes with a maintained vehicle pattern library. General design programs can drive a plotter, but you would have to draw or buy every pattern yourself. The paid programs above all offer a free trial.

Can I use one program for both tint and PPF?

Yes. All three programs in the table cover both. In PPF/Tint Studio, tint patterns are in both plans and PPF patterns are in Complete Access.
