Auto Nesting: fit more pieces on every roll

Auto Nesting arranges the pieces of a pattern across your roll width for you. It works from each piece's real outline, not a box drawn around it, so pieces rotate and tuck into each other's curves and less film is left between them. It keeps a 5 mm gap between every piece and packs around anything you've already placed.

How nesting works

  1. Set the Cut Box to your roll's width and the length you want to use. You can save up to five sizes as presets (a 60-inch roll and a 40-inch roll, for example) and switch between them with one click.
  2. Select the pieces you want to cut.
  3. Click Nest. The selected pieces are rotated and packed across the Cut Box's width, around anything that is already sitting in it.
  4. Adjust by hand if you want, then nest again. Nest only moves the pieces you have selected; anything else already in the Cut Box stays where it is.

Quick Nest and Optimized Nest

Nest has two modes. Right-click the Nest tool to switch between them.

ModeWhat it doesHow long it takesUse it for
Quick Nest (default)One fast placement pass, largest pieces first.A couple of seconds, even on a large kit.Laying out a job, when you nest, nudge a piece and nest again.
Optimized NestTries several piece orders, fine-tunes each piece's rotation, and fits concave pieces into each other. Can take tens of seconds on a large or very irregular kit.A final pass before you cut, when the tightest layout matters.

Common questions

How much film does nesting save?

It depends on the kit, the roll width and how you would have laid it out by hand, so we don't publish a single number. The honest way to find out is to nest a job you cut often and compare the length of film it uses with your usual layout.

Does it rotate pieces?

Yes. Nesting is rotation-aware, and Optimized Nest also makes small angle adjustments to each piece to close gaps.

Will it move pieces I've already positioned?

No. Nest only arranges the pieces you select and packs them around whatever is already in the Cut Box.

Does it work for both window tint and PPF?

Yes. Nesting works the same way on both, and it is included in both plans. See pricing.
